BLT Home of Mobility Basel

Location: Basel

Task: Design and Design Development

Collaboration: iGuzzini Schweiz AG, Zurich – Bausupport Group GmbH, Muttenz

In the heart of Basel, right next to the theater, Basellandschaftliche Transport AG - short BLT - has created a new, distinctive ticket office. The interior design reflects BLT’s identity and tells a story – of movement, regional character, and the connection between city and nature.

A central design feature is the so-called “forward element” – a series of tapering lines subtly integrated into the architecture.
These graphic lines symbolize movement, direction, and progress – values that define a modern transport company like BLT.

The design concept emphasizes natural materials and regional character. Local artisans were commissioned for the implementation, giving the interior a tangible sense of authenticity and craftsmanship. The combination of oak wood and black metal profiles creates a harmonious contrast – warm and inviting, yet urban and structured. Indirect lighting ensures a pleasant atmosphere.

A particular highlight is the use of glass bricks, which not only add architectural depth to the space but also play with light in a dynamic way.
The green wall panel brings a touch of nature into the urban environment, forming a bridge between nature and city life – a theme that plays an important role in the Basel region.

The tram’s design language has also been incorporated into the interior – for example, in the form of the waiting bench, which reflects the shapes and materials used in vehicle design. The result is a cohesive design concept that translates the world of mobility directly into the spatial experience.
